Dallas Contemporary to Honor Vivienne Westwood and Toast Paolo Roversi at S/S20 Gala

Dallas Contemporary, the leading contemporary arts museum in Dallas, is thrilled to announce esteemed British fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwoodas the honoree for its S/S20 Gala. The annual fundraiser, which brings together international and local guests across art, fashion and philanthropy, will take place at the museum (161 Glass St, Dallas, TX) on Saturday, 28 March, 2020. The evening serves as a private first look for Westwood’s upcoming exhibition, Get a Life! (29 March - 23 August 2020), which marks her first museum show in North America. The exhibition, co-curated by Dallas Contemporary Senior Curator Laurie Ann Farrell and Vivienne Westwood and her team, will present a fusion of fashion and art through the lens of activism. Guests will also preview the first North American museum exhibition of legendary Italian fashion photographer Paolo Roversi. Titled Birds (29 March - 23 August 2020), the exhibition will focus on his forty years of work and collaboration with the fashion brand COMME des GARÇONS. The exhibition will contain both known and never-seen-before photographs in a non-traditional installation. The exhibition is co-curated by Executive Director Peter Doroshenko and independent curator Dennis Freedman. The S/S20 Gala raises vital funds for the museum’s mission of presenting new and challenging ideas through contemporary art supported by unparalleled learning programs—all at free admission. “For over forty years, Vivienne Westwood has been a cultural leader and activist, ahead of her time and a trailblazer. It is very timely that Vivienne receives Dallas Contemporary’s 2020 creativity award for her vision, energy and focus on making the world a more interesting place. With the opening of Westwood's new and seminal exhibition, Get a Life!, Dallas audiences will enter her world of fashion, photography and activism to experience design like never before,” said Dallas Contemporary Executive Director Peter Doroshenko. S/S20 Gala is presented by Headington Companies, The Joule and Forty Five Ten. The gala will feature custom drinks by Casa Dragones Tequila and Roxor Gin with music by Dimitrios Varlamis, a conservatory-trained percussionist working with synthesizers and drum machines to produce purely organic sound. A live auction presented by Christie’s will take place over dinner along with a happening in honor of Vivienne Westwood. An after party with surprise DJ sets will follow. Guests will also be gifted a custom designed ceramic plate by artist Francesco Clemente, fabricated by Cerámica Suro in Guadalajara, Mexico.
