SATURDAY ART

NOT PHOTOGRAPHY AT ERIN CLULEY GALLERY

Six artists are brought together to ask you this question: Is this photography or not? In today's world, technology and access to cameras has made it possible for anyone to become an amateur photographer. These artists are challenging that notion by evolving the photographic process into something sophisticated and multifaceted. This exhibition features works that embody a shift from traditional processes into something more than photography. Expect to see unconventional treatment and presentation by the six artists featured:

CHIVAS CLEM – Paris, Texas ADRIÁN FERNÁNDEZ – Havana, Cuba HILLARY HOLSONBACK – Dallas, Texas EMILY PEACOCK– Houston, Texas KEVIN TODORA – Dallas, Texas JASON WILLAFORD – Dallas, Texas

See it Saturday February 20th, 2016 at 414 Fabrication Street. The exhibition will open with a reception for the artists from 6:00-8:00 pm. The exhibition has been organized by Erin Cluley Gallery and will be accompanied by an essay written by Dallas-based curator/writer Danielle Avram.

The prints measure 12.5 x 12.5 in with a 11.5 x 11.5 in. image area and are vibrantly printed with archival inks on heavy matte paper. The prints are housed in a box with a laser etched edition plate on the lid.

Tsibi Geva, Catherine Howe & Stephen Lapthisophon AT CONDUIT GALLERY

Conduit Gallery presents three solo shows from diverse artists around the world: Tsibi Geva, Catherine Howe, and Stephen Lapthisophon.

Multi layered surfaces and earth tones combine to create distinct yet abstract canvasses by Tsibi Geva. Sharp contrasts of gestural brushstrokes of light and dark are reminiscent of Tsibi's time in Israel.

“I believe the political tension resonates with the formalistic one—and this tension should remain unresolved. Different levels of interpretation—the subjective/psychological, the political, and the aesthetic—coexist. I believe these three registers supplement and dialectically reflect one another.” -Geva

Catherine Howe experiments with fluid representations of vases and still life, bringing reflective qualities to her subjects. Inspired by Dutch Baroque paintings, Howe focuses on the objects and the decorative, paintings about paintings.

With the end of his installation at the Nasher Sculpture Center, Stephen Lapthisophon's works on paper from the same period are being featured at this exhibition. A maestro of mixed media, Lapthisophon combines found materials like newspapers with ink and gesso to produce poetic improvisations that capture and linger in fleeting moments.

See it at Conduit Gallery this Saturday 6-8pm.

THE ART OF THE POP PORTRAIT AT LEVEL GALLERY

Get your pop art on! Level Gallery features the work of Jim Evans paired with Richard Duardo and Dakota Pratt. Evans is known for his original concert posters and brilliant album art, embraced the massive canonization of celebrity as an experiment in artistic fetishization. A giant pop culture party, the 1980s made way for movements like Graffiti, Neo-Geo, NeoPop, Punk, Nu Wave, No Wave and Memphis. Previous notions of color and design rules were destroyed, opening the way for new modernism.

See it at Level Gallery Saturday from 6-9pm!

HOT & WET AT CIRCUIT 12

Circuit 12 brings the HOT & WET Houston artists to the big D, including Bill Willis, Bradley Kerl, Alika Herreshoff, Lane Hagood, Angel Oloshove, Katy Heinlein, Heath West, Jonathan Ryan Storm, Dylan Roberts, and Guillaume Gelot.

Time to ROCK N ROLL. Trees Dallas brings JIBE and The Orange to the stage Saturday night. Following JIBE's notorious 11-year breakup and their reunion show sold out in less than 10 hours, you know this is going to be good. The Orange is a neo-psychedelic rock band from Dallas with one of the craziest live shows I've ever seen. Their frontman, Scott Tucker, never fails to get the crowd pumped, so be ready to dance. With a few of their songs from their newest album gracing radio waves all over the world, they're about to blow up.
