MTV RE:DEFINE 2016 breaks records, raises $2.5 million for charity

MTV RE:DEFINE held a record-breaking auction at the Dallas Contemporary for its fifth anniversary. Curated by Neville Wakefield, the impressive lineup included works by Mark Quinn, Dan Colen, Damien Hirst, Jeff Gibbons, Andrew Kuo, and Andrew Zientek. The legendary auctioneer, Simon de Pury , returned to lead the festivities. The live auction saw many works sold over their estimates, including two commissioned works by Mark Quinn sold for $320,000. Over 2.5 million dollars were raised for the MTV Staying Alive Foundation through the live and silent auction, sponsored by Paddle8.

The 2016 honored artist was Enoc Perez, a Puerto Rican painter known for his colorful nudes, still lifes, and modern architectural icons. His exhibiting work, Lipstick Building (below) was made by using sheets to transfer oil paint to canvas.

Co-hosts Kenny and Joyce Goss presented an award to Tim Headington of Headington Companies for their patronage of Dallas art.

The evening included an acoustic performance by British pop star Leona Lewis, including her hit Bleeding Love. Check out some highlights from the night below!
