Redefining The Little Black Dress

The Little Black Dress has been a wardrobe staple for nearly a century, but what does it take to truly find the perfect LBD for the modern woman? Yes, we all know and love the most famous LBD of all - Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's, but times have changed, and although that dress is a classic, women today need a dress to change as much as they do.

As a self-admitted LBD lover, I have at least a dozen dresses that were the dress at one point in their life. For one reason or another, each of them were subsequently replaced by a newer find. I've had long dresses, short dresses, modern and vintage styles, and everything in between. The dress I always searched for had to transition from day into night seamlessly and still retain a wow factor. After endless searching, I found the designer and dress at Fashion X Dallas a few weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier. The capsule collection is called Duality, made specifically for the modern woman.

The entire capsule collection of 5 pieces has 30 distinct looks, perfect for any LBD-worthy event. I wore the Alanis with the cape and fringe for the Dallas Contemporary opening, but both statement additions come off in a matter of minutes. Designed and created by emerging Dallas designer Erica Dawn Woodmore, this dress transforms with the thin leather straps used to attach modifications. Equipped with several different ways to alter the look, it can go from minimalistic to cheeky, and dramatic (as you see above). The cape is made from sheer chiffon, retaining shape yet light as a feather. The fringe can be replaced with a circular cut ruffle attached with the lacing, turning it into a floor-length mermaid gown. All of the pieces in the collection can be modified with interlaced leather, transforming from minimalistic dresses great for day into statement pieces for night.
