Now that temperatures have miraculously dropped below 90, you have absolutely no reason to miss out on Saturday's full range of openings. Follow us as we trek the city, this list features some of the many galleries holding openings this Saturday. All of the openings are organized in order of visitation and by location, making sure you have enough time to get the most art out of your day!

Resonant Fragments: Jen Pack - Carneal Simmons Contemporary Art

September 9 - October 7, 2017 Opening: September 9, 2017 | 5–8:30 pm "Many of the works in this show, Resonant Fragments, incorporate fragments of prior pieces into new ones. This synthesis is a physical manifestation of an attempt to subsume ambiguity and attain clarity. The work is made through an activity of intense seeing: seeing into the depths of color, looking past outer distractions to meaning that resides within deconstructed forms, listening to the hum of murmuring color." - Jen Pack

Trey Egan: Future Glow - Cris Worley Fine Arts

Opening: September 9, 2017 | 5–8 pm

A show of large-scale oil paintings by artist Trey Egan. “Egan’s abstract compositions are known primarily for their method of creation, in which Egan translates the rhythms of contemporary electronic music into rich channels of color.”

Tommy Fitzpatrick: Crystal Cities - Holly Johnson Gallery

September 9 - November 4, 2017

Opening: September 9, 2017 | 5–8 pm

A show of new paintings and sculptures by Texas artist Tommy Fitzpatrick. The works in the exhibition are inspired by a 1940 Frank Lloyd Wright architectural project that was set for a Washington D.C suburb, but was ultimately never built.

Joey Brock creates collages that act as responses to the urban landscapes he discovers on his travels.

Denise Brown creates richly textured paintings, sculptures and mixed media works.

Jay Maggio’s oil paintings draw on images of nature and memories from the artist’s childhood.

Cowboys, Cowgirls, and Some Indians

A group exhibition of works that focus on documenting cowboy culture. The show includes works by Bank Langmore, Chris Regas, Jeremy Enlow, John Stryker, and Edward S. Curtis.

Bonnie & Clyde: The End

A show of historical photographs of the infamous Texas criminal couple Bonnie & Clyde

John Herrin: Nature Mort

A show of still life photographs by Houston artist John Herrin. About the show: “After Hurricane Ike hit Houston, Herrin’s flower arrangements within his home took on a different character in darkness, resulting in the days long power outage. That was when he decided to photograph the flowers that his wife often brought to the house, beautifully inserted into unique vases from their collection.”

Zhuang Hong Yi: Chromatic Shift - Laura Rathe Fine Art

A show of works by Dallas-based artist Alison Jardine. The show features new sculptures, which are cement casts of plastic bags.

Casey Leone: xxxxx Goes to Washington - The Reading Room

September 9 - October 7, 2017

Opening: September 9, 2017 | 6–9 pm

Casey Leone’s exhibition, xxxxx Goes to Washington, “uses the 1939 Frank Capra film Mr Smith Goes to Washington as source material to create an archive of recontextualized images and information for our times.”

Ann Stautberg: Home Cycles - Barry Whistler Gallery

September 9 - October 14, 2017

Opening: September 9, 2017 | 6–9 pm

A show of new photographs by Ann Stautberg. “In Home Cycles, Stautberg returns to her immediate surroundings focusing on the sky and palm trees, returning to sites at different times of day, not unlike Monet’s haystacks.”

Melinda Laszczynski: A Hole A Pool A Moon - Galleri Urbane Dallas

September 9 - October 7, 2017

Opening: September 9, 2017 | 4:30–9 pm (Artist talk at 4:30PM)

A show of works by Melinda Laszczynski. The artist on her work: “My most recent paintings include a reflective holographic film, surrounded by hazy aerosol and poured house paint. I refer to these paintings as portals they are reminiscent of archways and tunnels. As one approaches the painting, the film reflects a disrupted image of oneself, an entry point to an alternative, far away space.”

Letitia Huckaby: 40 Acres Gumbo Ya Ya - Liliana Bloch Gallery

September 9 - October 7, 2017

Opening: September 9, 2017 | 6–9 pm

A show of works by Letitia Huckaby. “40 Acres Gumbo Ya Ya is a poetic examination of a promise made by Union General William Sherman for agrarian reform to enslaved African American farmers. Gumbo Ya Ya means, “everybody talks at once.” Referencing broken agreements (just words) and the continual discussion (everybody talking at once) about the Blues originating past.”
